About us
Our Story
We first opened our doors in Malton in 2007 and what started out as a “side hustle” for our owners, Tim and Zoe, soon turned into a full-time passion and career.
Our inspiration was, and continues to be, quite simple. We wanted to recreate that typically Mediterranean experience of informally sharing a mix of freshly prepared dishes with friends and family. And nowhere does this better than Spain.
As the food is varied and wide-ranging it becomes a big part of the conversation which helps bring people together — obviously with a glass or two of well-chosen wine to wash it down!
Everything we do at Ambiente is done to make your experience as enjoyable and memorable as possible, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Sustainability
Being an independent restaurant, we’re committed to sustainability. We source fresh, local produce that is not only delicious but that respects the environment too! From farm to fork, we work with local suppliers where possible to reduce our carbon footprint whilst supporting the local economy. We’re committed to sourcing ethically reared produce and authentic Spanish ingredients from high-quality Spanish producers. Our meat is sourced within a 40-mile radius, our chicken and eggs are free range and our coffee comes from local suppliers in each of our cities.
We look closely at our forecasts to determine what we need to prep weekly and also work with BioMass to recycle any food that has gone to waste.
Our commitment extends beyond the kitchen. We’ve embraced eco-friendly practices elsewhere to minimise waste where we can, from printing our menus weekly in-house to reduce paper waste and investing in electric vehicles for our operations team.
In recognition of our endeavours, we were finalists in the Socially Responsible Business of the Year category at the York Press Business Awards.

Local Produce
We’re committed to supporting local independent businesses. Our meat is sourced within a 40-mile radius, our chicken and eggs are free range and our coffee comes from local supplier Roost Coffee.
We also just launched our seasonal special range which has proved extremely successful. This highlights seasonal produce that’s been sourced locally and highlights the fantastic produce available in Yorkshire right now.
Accessibility & Baby‑Changing
We strive to make our restaurants and menus as accessible as possible. Our York, Fossgate and Hull, Humber Street restaurants have full ground-level access with a ground-floor accessible toilet.
Our Leeds, The Calls and York, Goodramgate restaurants are unfortunately not fully accessible due the buildings we are housed in.
All our restaurants have unisex baby-changing facilities, except Leeds, where they are located in the ladies toilets.
The dishes on our restaurant menus list the allergens they contain and we also have an interactive dietary requirements menu that enables the filtering of multiple allergens and dietary preferences like vegetarian and vegan diets.
